Aeropress Brewing Guide

Clean, sweet, and endlessly versatile — a modern classic for everyday brewing

The AeroPress is one of the most forgiving and flexible brewers out there. It delivers a smooth, low‑bitterness cup with minimal equipment and almost no mess. Whether you’re at home, in the office, or travelling, it’s a brilliant way to get a consistently delicious brew.

This guide uses a simple, reliable method that highlights the natural sweetness in Golden Sheep Coffee.

Step-by-step instructions

What you'll need

  • Aeropress (standard size)
  • Paper filter
  • Burr grinder (if you have beans)
  • Freshly roasted Golden Sheep Coffee beans (or purchase pre-ground)
  • Kettle
  • Scales (optional but helpful)
  • Stirrer or spoon

Recommended Recipe

  • Dose: 15g coffee
  • Water: 230g at approx. 94 °C
  • Grind: Medium-fine
  • Time: approx. 2 minutes

This ratio gives a clean, balanced cup with a gentle sweetness.

Step 1 - Prepare the brewer

Place a paper filter in the cap and rinse it with hot water. This removes any papery taste and preheats the brewer.

Step 2 - Add coffee

Set up the Aeropress in the "standard" position (filter end down) over of a mug or jug (standing on your scales). Add your ground coffee.

Step 3 - Bloom

  • Start your timer.
  • Add 50g of hot water and stir gently to wet all the grounds.
  • Let it sit for 30 seconds.

Step 4 - Fill and stir

  • Add the remaining water up to 230g.
  • Give it another gentle stir to ensure even extraction.

Step 5 - Insert the plunger

  • Place the plunger inside the top - just enough to create a seal.
  • This prevents the coffee from dripping through prematurely.

Step 6 - Press

  • At 1 min:30 secs, begin pressing slowly and steadily.
  • Aim for a total press time of 20-30 seconds.
  • Stop when you hear the gentle hiss.

Step 7 - Taste and adjust

  • Too sharp or light: grind finer
  • Too strong or heavy: grind coarser
  • Want more body: reduce water slightly
  • Want more clarity: increase water or grind a touch coarser

The Aeropress rewards small tweaks

Tips for better Aeropress

  • Use filtered water for a cleaner, sweeter cup.
  • Rinse the filter thoroughly to avoid papery flavours.
  • Try the inverted method if you prefer a richer, fuller body.
  • For iced coffee, brew as above and pour over a glass of ice.

Our recommendation

The Aeropress brings out the sweetness and clarity in our single origins. If you enjoy bright, fruit-forward cups, this method is a perfect match. For something rounder and more chocolate-led, our Forty Acre Lane House Blend works beautifully too.
