Cold Brew Brewing Guide

Smooth, sweet, and naturally refreshing — effortless coffee for warm days or busy weeks.

Cold brew is brewed slowly over many hours, producing a naturally sweet, low‑acidity concentrate that’s perfect over ice, topped with milk, or diluted with chilled water. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a big batch of delicious coffee with almost no effort.

This guide gives you a clean, balanced cold brew that stays fresh for days.

Step-by-step instructions

What you'll need

  • Large jar, jug, or cold‑brew maker
  • Freshly roasted Golden Sheep Coffee beans (or purchase pre-ground)
  • Burr grinder (if using beans)
  • Fine mesh sieve or paper filter
  • Scales (optional)
  • Clean, filtered water

Recommended Recipe

  • Coffee: 100g
  • Water: 1 litre (cold or room temperature)
  • Grind: Coarse (similar to cafetière)
  • Brew time: 12–16 hours

This ratio creates a smooth, versatile concentrate you can dilute to taste.

Step 1 - Grind your coffee

Use a coarse grind to keep the brew clean and avoid bitterness.

Step 2 - Combine coffee and water

  • Add the coffee to your jar or brewer.
  • Pour in 1 litre of cold or room‑temperature filtered water.
  • Stir gently to ensure all grounds are saturated.

Step 3 - Steep slowly

  • Cover and leave to brew for 12–16 hours at room temperature or in the fridge.
  • Longer steeping = stronger concentrate.

Step 4 - Strain

  • Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, then again through a paper filter for clarity.
  • Take your time — cold brew drains slowly.

Step 5 - Store

  • Transfer the concentrate to a clean bottle or jar.
  • Keep refrigerated for up to 5 days.

Step 6 - Serve

  • Dilute 1:1 with cold water or milk, or adjust to taste.
  • Pour over ice for a smooth, refreshing cup.

Step 7 - Taste and adjust

  • Too strong: dilute more or steep for less time
  • Too weak: increase dose or steep longer
  • Too bitter: grind coarser or reduce steep time
  • Too flat: try a fresher roast or a brighter single origin

Cold brew is wonderfully forgiving — small tweaks go a long way.

Our recommendation

Cold brew highlights sweetness and chocolatey depth. Our Forty Acre Lane House Blend makes a beautifully smooth, rounded cold brew. For something
brighter and more refreshing, a fruity single origin adds a lovely lift.
